Full Statement of Intent

Below you can download my full Statement of Intent that highlights key areas of focus for me as a servant of Whanganui.

Why I decided to run and who am I?

Your voice heard first.  When was the last time you heard that your voice should be first?  More than likely a lot, but you feel like it’s just a slogan, it's just voice.  My mission is an easy one to meet – your voice, at the table, every time!

Though I was born and raised here in Whanganui I whakapapa to elsewhere.  Ko wai au?  Ko Maungatere te Maunga, ko Rakahuri te awa, ko Ngai Tūāhuriri te hapu, ko Ngai Tahu te iwi, ki te noho au, Whanganui. Ko DC Harding a hau. I grew up in Whanganui. .

My mother has strong bloodlines to Whanganui - her mum was a Higgie before marrying my grandfather - he an Adams.  My grandfather's line comes from a Rangatira (Chief) line in Ngāi Tahu.  My grandfather's, grandfather owned a Māori language school in Hawera.

I was raised in Castlecliff, but, have lived in most suburbs. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all as we journey through this election cycle together.

What do I want?

I want to help you ignite your passion for Whanganui.  Having spent nearly half a decade outside of Whanganui exploring what Aotearoa has to offer, I returned home to start my own business, Tuākana Education.  Most of my whanau here in Whanganui own their own home, and have multi-generations of rate payers each choosing to stay in Whanganui. Whanganui needs a vision to ensure that economy moves forward and doesn’t go backwards.  Whanganui needs a vision that will see it continue to grow.  Whanganui needs people at the table like myself who come with innovative ideas, are solution-focused and people-centered.  I believe you have that vision, you have the voice, my job is simply to represent that at the table.
